Maasai People, Kenya and Tanzania- Knife and sheath- metal, leather. This Maasai sword shows the median ridge favored by local blacksmiths prior to the import of European long knives, which later craftsmen would file to the desired shape and size. The leather sheath includes a loop near the top, to attach to a beaded leather belt. 25 1/4'' Provenance: Paul B. Travis collection- Paul B. Travis brought this item back when he traveled through East Africa in 1928.
