Shona or neighboring group, Zimbabwe- Sword- wood, metal, wire. While the wide, scimitar-shaped blade on this piece is atypical of most Shona sword forms, the delicate wire and fiber-work braiding on the hilt is a hallmark of Shona artistry, as is the intricate chip carving on the wooden handle. 25 3/4'' Provenance: Paul B. Travis collection- Paul B. Travis brought this item back when he traveled through East Africa in 1928.
