Paul Rene Gauguin (French 1911-1976)- Untitled- 2 rubbings on thin Japan paper, 1959, both initalled and numbered 3/6. These rubbings were made in 1959 from a cabinet drawer front that Paul Gauguin had created. In 1882, Gauguin decorated the front of an Art Nouveau display cabinet or armoire (photo attached) with relief carvings which he also painted. The cabinet was his own and in his house in Paris. This cabinet was bought by the Hamburg Museum for Arts and Crafts in 1978 and is in their collection. However, in 1959, before the museum owned the cabinet, Paul Rene Gauguin was able to make a small edition of prints using the drawer fronts to print from. 12 1/2 x 18'' (sheet)
