Taino. Human to frog transformation Cemi/Stamp. Though traditionally called a stamp the carved designs represented on the bases were symbols not stamps. The piece depicts a frog like head with huge eyes and gaping mouth. A female symbol on the front (between the arms) and the frog head denotes female intent and is likely a reference to Atabey or Frog mother the Taino's primary goddess of fertility. Made of a fine grained tan hard stone. Length 2.5''. Height 3'' Base has 2 interfacing bird head symbols
