Maasai People, Kenya and Tanzania- Simi (or similar) spear with sheath- metal, wood, leather. These come in long, middle, or shorter forms, and feature a red leather sheath. Older examples usually have a ridged handle, like this one, while newer ones may have a flat one. Also, the older examples have a defined median ridge down their length and are slightly wider at the tip. Many groups across eastern Africa have very similar swod form, making specific identification difficult. 33 1/4'' Provenance: Paul B. Travis collection- Paul B. Travis brought this item back when he traveled through East Africa in 1928.
