How soon after auction would I receive payment if I consign?

I left an absentee bid on a lot prior to the auction. But the result shows it was sold to someone else for the same amount. Why didn’t I get it?
Your bid was off-footed. Once each lot opens up for bidding, each bid is accepted as the auctioneer sees amongst gallery bidders or at proxy bid table for absentee, phone and/or internet bid(s). If there are multiple bidders, for fairness to all participating bidders, the auctioneer begins to take turn accepting bids amongst them at each increment. Sometimes the amount of bid that is same as your maximum bid falls onto someone else. Then our staff who is bidding on your behalf will no longer be able to bid for you at the next increment up. This can happen because we do not have control over how many bidders will participate and how much they/he/she will be bidding. And since bidding is competitively processed, we can not just bid your maximum price just to make sure you will win the lot.
